Ayanae - Visual Identity

Ayanae is a retailer celebrating hair, fashion, and cosmetics, with a special focus on Black-owned brands. They wanted a logo that not only looked modern but also honoured the cultural richness behind their offering.

I started with research, exploring visual references from Black beauty culture, modern fashion, and Afrocentric design. The challenge was to strike a balance: creating something fresh and contemporary that also carried heritage and depth.

The final identity was bold and unapologetic, with a mark that feels stylish and versatile while hinting at diversity and empowerment. A carefully chosen colour palette and typography system gave the logo the flexibility to live across packaging, online platforms, and store environments.

What made this project rewarding was helping Ayanae celebrate and amplify underrepresented voices in beauty — and giving them a visual identity that stood tall alongside the big-name competitors.
